KOTA KINABALU: A Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) is taking issue with claims made by Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal that the Kadazandusun, Murut and Rungus (KDMR) communities’ support for his party is increasing.
“This is a false narrative to make believe that Warisan is still relevant and worthy of support following the 2020 poll defeat,” PGRS Tandek chief Datuk Dr Janathan Kandok says.
He was commenting on a Sayang Sabah report which also quoted Shafie as saying recently in Keningau that a significant number of STAR, PBS, KDM and PBRS members had defected to Warisan in recent times.
The STAR and PBS are part of the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition.Dr Janathan says Shafie’s claims does not reflect the real sentiments at the grassroots level.
”Those who left and joined Warisan are probably some disgruntled individuals who do not represent the majority and who still remain loyal to their respective parties,”he says matter-of-factly.
Dr Janathan points out that Shafie, a former Chief Minister, was attempting to hoodwink the people into believing that Warisan is widely accepted by the KDMR communities.“The 2020 state election results had proven otherwise,” he adds.
Dr Janathan expresses confidence that the KDMR communities will remain fully supportive of all GRS component parties.
“They are now wiser and will not be taken in by the opposition’s rhetoric. They feel safe under the GRS administration,”Dr Janathan says, adding that the opposition are power-hungry.And, he also urges the KDMR communities to continue to unite under GRS for the sake of Sabah’s future.
Meanwhile, Dr Janathan says Warisan’s performance when in power from 2018 till 2020, was nothing to write home about.
